Radhika Vaz has been recently generating quite a buzz as “India’s most ‘Unladylike’ woman, thanks to her solo show, Unladylike: The Pitfalls of Propriety. A one-woman standup comedy routine directed by Brock Savage, Unladylike has filled seats in New York City and is now hitting the road to the Indian metropolises of Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore.
A talented writer and performer, Ms. Vaz has audiences roaring with laughter as she covers topics like flatulence, sex, and a woman’s menstrual cycle with much wit and humor. Through it all, Ms. Vaz poignantly presents to her audiences the inner workings of the modern woman, and does so in light of Indian cultural sensitivities.
"One day, I took an improv class with a woman called Holly Mandel, and finally found something I wanted to be good at," she writes on her
webpage. "Improv helped me find my feet as a performer and, surprisingly enough, as a writer."
While Indians and Americans in New York City have enjoyed her show for several months, it is now up to audiences in the motherland to prepare themselves for Ms. Vaz’s raunchy yet witty humor, as she dives right into topics generally considered taboo for most other women to discuss.
Ms. Vaz, who was born and raised in India, first got her start on the New York City circuit when she enrolled in improv classes to hone in on the comedy routines she developed as a youngster back in the motherland. Shortly thereafter, she acted in off-Broadway plays (A First Class Man) and several independent movies.
One thing lead to another, and Ms. Vaz later appeared on Comedy Central’s Instant Comedy. She has also written and performed her own sketches, including The Kat & Rad Show.
A member of the Improvolution Company Troupe, Ms. Vaz maintains a
blog where fans can keep up with her witty observations and commentary of modern womanhood. Through her
blog, you can learn more about her and laugh at her daily antics and musings about life.
Similarly, you can also follow her on
