During the week of June 22nd, the Hilton Hotel in New York City hosted the 29th Annual AAPI (American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) Convention, where Intersections Match’s Jasbina Ahluwalia spoke to the group’s Young Physicians Section about connection with potential life partners and future mates. She promoted her service as an alternative to online dating.
Midtown New York was overtaken by Indian Health Professionals in a variety of fields who were coming together for a few days of networking, skill-building, and socializing before going back to their busy lives all across the United States.
The Young Physician Section of AAPI, which caters primarily to physicians in their 20s-early 40s, was especially busy with a jam-packed schedule of daytime meetings, courses, as well as self-development workshops. One special speaker that the AAPI coordinators had invited was Jasbina Ahluwalia, who specializes in helping those single professionals who are too busy with their work obligations to get serious about finding their life partners and future mates.
Ms. Ahluwalia hosted a discussion seminar on the afternoon June 24th at the Hilton, and had a packed house full of singles who were eating up her words as soon as she started to speak about the hardships and victories of dating as a Desi person living in the United States.
A trained lawyer, Ms. Alhuwalia is an entrepreneur with a passion for helping people make matches that last lifetimes. She really connected the crowd, which was full of guys and girls in their 20s and 30s. She spoke directly about the growing concern that first-generation born-and-raised Indians are experiencing when it comes to dating.
With one set of values to be followed at home within the Indian family framework, and another set of values dictating one's personal and social life within an American framework, it is no wonder that so many young Indian professionals are single and are having challenges when it comes to finding and marrying the perfect person for themselves.
Ms. Alhuwalia also spoke about unrealistic expectations, and about the importance of really understanding your own values apart from your family values, and how to locate this within someone else while navigating the tricky terrain of dating.
A great speaker who really inspired many singles to take control of their dating lives, Ms. Alhuwalia is also a professional matchmaker who works toward serving her clients by making introductions to potentially quality mates. If you are single and Desi and seeking love, be sure to check her out.
