If laughter is good for the soul, then Konkona Sen Sharma must be the James Brown of Bollywood. And to think she almost never made her way to the Indian version of Hollywood. Alas, here she is, and Konkona can not only make you laugh but she can leave you drooling with her stunningly gorgeous looks as well – especially if you are guy.
Now she hopes to continue making people laugh while looking good, as the 31-year-old actress returns to the big screen this weekend in Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, a comedy film also starring Ajaj Devgn.
Just like the story of many of her other colleagues who somehow end up in Bollywood despite plans to the contrary, Konkona said she merely stumbled upon her acting career but enjoyed her debut so much, she decided to continue pursuing the thespian arts.
“Initially I had no plans on making my career as an actress, but when my first film clicked, I thought to myself, why not this?” she told reporters while promoting her upcoming films and about her career taking off after her National Award-winning role in Mr. and Mrs. Iyer. “If I am doing this well, let’s stick around here.”
Of course, there is more to Konkona’s life than merely acting. Indeed, the buxom enjoys a good read while eating and being a rebel.
In speaking about each aspect of her life beyond acting, Konkona said she ultimately is just being herself and is enjoying life, irrespective of what others think about her.
“I am someone who is confident about herself and quite secure,” she honestly told reporters. “I don’t listen to anyone, and the more people tell me to do this and that, the more I ignore them and do the same…except my mom.”
Among the issues she willfully ignores her Bollywood counterparts about is her weight. Sure, she is not a size zero, but Konkona is perfectly happy about that.
“I’m not skinny compared to others in Bollywood, but I am not fat. I love food, and that’s what gives me pleasure and satisfaction,” she admitted in her talk with reporters. “Up to a point, I don’t care about whether I am gaining weight or losing it; I think I am quite attractive, and many like me the way I am.”
Perhaps one of those attractive features she possesses is her brains, and she loves to feed her uppermost organ with lots and lots of reading.
“But it has to be a good book — I can’t stand bad books,” she candidly announced. “I have no patience to give them a chance and read the whole thing.”
While she may be a bit of a rebel and loves to eat while reading a good book, Konkona does have some flaws, the most glaring of which is her being a neat-freak. The actress admitted she is super anal about everything in her personal life, almost to a fault.
“My friends get really irritated with my fastidiousness,” she admitted. “Even the cushions should be in their place.”
Okay, so she has some flaws just like the rest of us. Still, she prides herself on being an entertaining actress, and in the next two months will be starring in four productions, including this weekend’s release of Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, so get used to seeing her around for a bit.
