FILM INTERVIEW: SONAM KAPOOR

Anil Kapoor’s Daughter Says ‘Thank You’ For The Opportunity To Expand Her Repertoire

Sonam Kapoor on buzzine.comSonam Kapoor may or may not say “Thank You” enough to her superstar father, Bollywood legend, Slumdog Millionaire and Mr. India cast member Anil Kapoor, but one week prior to the release of the film she is headlining--Anees Bazmee’s Thank You on April 8th--perhaps the only thing this budding actress is grateful for is the fact that she is alive and well.

According to news reports, the Thank You star, which also headlines Akshay Kumar, was hospitalized in the Mumbai suburb of Andheri, collapsing shortly after complaining of severe exhaustion and high fever.

The hospitalization reportedly occurred after she was promoting Thank You in Dubai, amidst a schedule that reportedly included on-screen work for endorsement campaigns, a trip to Jaipur for her brand ambassador duties for a luxury automobile, production work for her role in the upcoming film Mausam, and finally, her trip to the Middle East.

“A hectic work schedule landed a fatigued and sleep-deprived Sonam in the hospital,” Anil Kapoor told a British news outlet about his eldest daughter, who was reportedly joined bedside by mother Sunita and sister Rhea. “On her return, she developed a high temperature and was taken to the hospital for a check-up. Late in the evening, it was learned that Sonam needed to be hospitalized. She needed complete rest. Sonam will be discharged from the hospital over the weekend.”

Luckily, Ms. Kapoor is expected to be on her feet in time for Friday’s release of Thank You, which was directed by Mr. Bazmee, produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Twinkle Khanna, and also stars Mr. Khanna alongside Bobby Deol, Suneil Shetty, Irfan Khan, Celina Jaitley, and Rimi Sen. Mallika Sherawat appears in an item number and Vidya Balan makes a cameo.

Prior to her attempts to immerse herself in the promotional campaigns for Thank You, Ms. Kapoor spent a few minutes chatting with Buzzine about her childhood and personal life.

She said that, despite her father’s superstar status in Bollywood, both of her parents apparently did all they could to allow Ms. Kapoor to live a “normal” life growing up.

“To a certain extent, my parents made sure we had a very normal childhood. I did not visit the movie sets, but when my dad was traveling, I did travel with him,” Ms. Kapoor told Buzzine in an exclusive chat. “Also, the school you go to, who your parents are, what sort of upbringing they give you … depends from person to person,” adding that her father “is the best father in the world, and that is a perk.”

Perhaps another perk is having the luxury and privilege to be considered for leading roles in films of wide release, and Thank You is a UTV Motion Pictures production that is being massively distributed worldwide.

For Ms. Kapoor, she was happy to be considered for Thank You and, upon liking what it had in store for her, saw the film as an opportunity to expand her range.

“I heard the script and I liked my role, and I thought that I hadn’t done a film in this genre, and why not do it with the person who is the best at making films in this genre?” she told Buzzine about the film and its director.

As Ms. Kapoor gets back on her feet just in time for the release of Thank You, hopefully she will quickly resume her ascent to the top of Bollywood and not let a little sleep deprivation get in the way.
