Interview: Tabu

She is that one actress who always finds her way into the low-budget and more artistic side of cinema, kind of like the Bollywood version of Rachel Leigh Cook or even John Cusack.
To that end, Tabu’s films tend to receive greater numbers in the critical-acclaim category than in the box-office department, but the two-time National Award-winning actress is fine with that.
She also appears to be happy with the strong though positive moniker attached to her during a recent interview with the press as she promoted her latest film, Toh Baat Pakki, before its release last Friday.
“I am happy being called (sensuous),” Tabu candidly told the media about the moniker.
While the sensuous moniker may fitting, considering the actress’s stunning beauty at age 39, Tabu said she really does not follow the current trend of Bollywood leading ladies maintaining a strict regimen of diet and exercise.
Instead, she just sticks to her own routine for keeping her girlish figure in shape, even though she would not reveal to reporters just what her techniques are.
“I don’t believe in dieting and going to the gym,” she admitted. “(My regimen) is a secret.”
What is not a secret is that Tabu is back in action after a three-year hiatus from acting. Last seen on the silver screen opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the 2007 film Cheeni Kum, the Hindi film star returned to theaters last weekend in Toh Baat Pakki, where she portrays a middle-aged woman intent on making her young sister “settle down” with a suitable mate.
The film also stars Sharman Joshi, Vatsal Seth and Yuvika Chaudhary.
While various media outlets seemed to disagree with Tabu by publishing negative reviews of the film, the actress said she had a lot of fun working with the other cast members.
“It was great fun working with Sharman, Vatsal and Yuvika,” Tabu happily told reporters. “Moreover, since it is a fun film, the whole atmosphere on the sets made shooting enjoyable.”
At least she found her experience to be pleasurable – and if she is as sensuous as her fans believe her to be, Tabu will definitely be finding ways to please others as well.
