She may have milk on tongue, but Shraddha Kapoor is no stranger to disappointment. After making her debut in the box office dud Teen Patti (which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Sir Ben Kingsley), the daughter of Shakti Kapoor truly hopes her lead role in Bumpy’s Luv Ka the End, which also stars Taaha Shah, will give her another opportunity to demonstrate her acting chops.
“I didn’t consider my first film (Leena Yadav’s Teen Patti) as my launch pad. People exaggerated that a star kid is being launched. I am not a rocket that I would be launched repeatedly,” Ms. Kapoor told the press in an interview while promoting Luv Ka The End, which opens on May 6th. “Honestly, in my first film, I got an opportunity to show that I can act, and this is second one.”
With Ms. Shah herself making a film debut courtesy of Y Films, Ms. Kapoor was actually a little dumbfounded by Teen Patti’s poor receptions.
“I met people who had never heard of Teen Patti. It hurts,” she humbly told the press. “I was really low when it didn’t do well. First film really matters. If first film doesn’t work, it's very difficult to get your second film. In fact, after Teen Patti, I auditioned for another film and I was finalized for it, but then someone else was taken for that part. I cried a lot.”
Hopefully any tears Ms. Kapoor sheds for Love Ka the End, which is a sex comedy, will be tears of joy, especially considering the level of initiative the young actress demonstrated to land the film’s lead role.
“Luckily, I have an opportunity to work in the film. I thought either you cry or do something about it,” Ms. Kapoor told reporters. “When I got a call for the audition, I made sure that anyhow I have to get it. So I worked very hard -- I worked harder than I expected myself to do.”
Such hard work is definitely appreciated by Y Films, which is the latest arm of Yash Raj Films created to corner the youth market and giving young actors and filmmakers (just like Ms. Kapoor) a chance to create a name and following for themselves. (Y Films has two other films under its belt in Virus Diwan and Nupur Ashtana’s Mujhse Fraaandhip Karoge.)
Ms. Kapoor is taking her opportunity seriously, and she hopes such efforts are on display in Love Ka the End, in which the actress stars as the realistically bold Rhea.
“Rhea is romantic, but she is not shy and wilting -- she is actually determined,” Ms. Kapoor was quoted as saying at a press conference in Mumbai while promoting the film. “The promos also showed her mouthing some bold dialogues like, ‘I swear on my psycho dadi, I’m going to have his balls.’”
Odds are highly unlikely that Ms. Kapoor herself will have similarly bold reactions to the film’s performance this weekend, though, rest assured, if Love Ka the End does do well at the box office, we will likely not see “the end” of Ms. Kapoor’s acting career.
Also starring Shenaz Treasuryvala, Jannat Zubair Rahmani, and Ali Zafar in a special appearance, Love Ka the End is directed by Bumpy and produced by Aashish Patil. Its only competition this weekend is Haunted (3D).
