(Ritz Carlton Hotel, New York City) On Monday, September 12, 2011, New York City-based SAYWE (South Asian Young Women Entrepreneurs) hosted a fabulous event, Fashion for Compassion: An Evening of Runway and Heart, honoring renowned designer Ranjana Khan at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

Ranjana Khan -- who is a world famous jewelry designer and whose divine ornaments are sold at such highly esteemed stores as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman -- is also the wife of the famous clothing designer Naeem Khan. This fashion show -- which was a benefit for the non-profit organization Whishwas, which helps low-income South Asian women in New York City -- brought a fabulous gaggle of Bollywood and South Asian-American celebrities to the runway dressed in dazzling attire by top designers.
Besides designer Ranjana Khan, some of the other designers, whose beautiful South Asian-inspired designs were showcased on the runway, were Amrita Singh, Pria Kataaria Puri, Atelier Azza, Rani Emman, and Rodrigo Otazu.
With a mix of talented models and celebrities making an appearance on the runway, the attendees viewed a wide range of stunning clothing and jewelry items which these designers will be debuting as part of their Fall 2011 collection.
Celebrities in attendance included Archie Punjabi of The Good Wife, Bollywood actor Abhay Deol, Miss Great Britain Preeti Desai, Janina Gavankar of True Blood, Anusha Dandekar from the movie Delhi Belly, and actor Samrat Chakrabarti.
This event, which was held during the same week as Fashion Week in New York City, really brought out a crowd of socially conscious and fashionable attendees who desired to help Wishwas grow its mission to help low-income women through their ticket sales and clothing purchases while providing them with a South Asian fashion event that was both tasteful and entertaining.
Reema Rasool, the founder and executive director of SAYWE, states that, “New York Fashion Week is the time we celebrate and honor the best in fashion from the nation's most talented and eclectic designers.”
Fashion for Compassion was certainly a night full of the best South Asian designers all gathering in one spot, and it was a sparkling night at the Ritz!
